The funds will be allocated for the development of our application, the "What's for Dinner?" app, is designed to alleviate food insecurity within the community. This innovative tool will aim to undermine food deserts by streamlining the delivery of food to areas in need. It will connect users to local agricultural producers, food pantries, and other distribution points, such as neighborhood supermarkets. Primarily, the app functions as an inventory management system, allowing users to keep track of their fridge and pantry contents. It features an algorithm that sifts through the stored food data to suggest recipes based on what is immediately available, emphasizing the use of items nearing their expiration to reduce waste. Additionally, the app will serve food banks by providing a digital inventory management solution, enhancing their communication with the community. When supplies of certain items are low, the app will recommend alternative sources or purchasing options. It will enable real-time visibility into food bank inventories for better coordination with community needs. Furthermore, it will offer local farmers a platform to list their produce, facilitating direct community engagement and subscription to Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs via the app.
